Bijamrit is a botanic preparation used to protect from seed borne diseases and increase the germination rate. It consist of: 1kg cow dung; 1l cow urine; 50g lime; 200g fertile soil and 5l water.

All ingredients are mixed together properly and put in a earthen pot for 24 hours. The pot should be closed with a clean cotton cloth. The solution needs to be stirred 2 times/days (morning and evening hours) for 7 days until it is ready forapplication.

2l Bijamrit is needed for 30kg seeds. The seeds are mixed with Bijamrit and kept for 12 - 18 hours in the shade or indoors. As soon as the seeds are completely dried they can be sown.

During SAF-BIN project Bijamrit has been tested with black gram, wheat, kodo millet and rice. Farmer Tulsi Ram of Bardwar village in Mandla district (Madhya Pradesh, India) reported this practice to the SAF-BIN team.
