SAFBIN Celebrates International Day for Biodiversity in India

The SAFBIN program areas in Jabalpur and Sagar districts marked the International Day for Biodiversity on May 22, 2024, with a series of engaging activities. The celebrations commenced with a transect walk involving smallholder farmers’ collectives and members of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI). During the walk, participants observed and identified various local species, fostering an understanding of their role and importance within the ecosystem. The community and program team collaborated to create awareness posters and slogans, which were utilized to promote biodiversity conservation. Informative discussions highlighted the critical importance of biodiversity for human well-being and environmental sustainability.

Discussion among the community members on the importance of Biodiversity

Following the transect walk, an awareness session was held, addressing various strategies for conserving and enhancing biodiversity. Topics included measures to prevent deforestation and the role of plantations in mitigating climate change. Participants also explored potential initiatives to improve soil health, water management, and river revitalization.
